This is where the "gray area" verses come in James 4:17 and I Corinthians 10:31.
Now, you see many people complain about couponers and their ethics. when I heard there are rules about couponing, I was surprised. When I read the rules they made sense. I am all for ethical couponing. It is just right to do things the right way, because everyone wins. When others play by their own rules, others suffer. It is the TEAM or RIPPLE EFFECT mentality we must have. Things don't just affect you, (and boy they do), they affect others. Do you want to be responsible for the family that suffers and does not get groceries they need ( I mean really need) because you want to win, no matter what?
1. Don't photocopy a coupon. Why each coupon has a code and the store only gets reimbursed for one copy of that code, ( the product company pays the store back for taking the coupon) if you photocopy and redeem at a store THAT IS STEALING. You would not be happy if I gave you counterfeit money, so in that line of thinking don't give stores counterfeit coupons. They are both illegal anyways and you could go to court over it.
But I want to have more than one, that wonderful we all do (especially if it is something we need all the time). Every computer will give 2 coupons, just hit the backspace.(Libraries are good places for this) Other options are see if your Sunday paper insert has it. Register and get on the mailing lists with the company for coupons.
2. Shelf- clearing. Many think this is a gray area of couponing ethics. Personally, if I am going to spend time couponing, why not call the store ahead of time to pre-order however many you would like.If you ever are the result of a shelf-clearer you know the pain of fruitless planning. It gives you plenty but save other customers that only want one or two. It is just being considerate, I think. Only good thing of the shelf being cleared is getting a rain check and more time on your coupon. (discussed later)
(some stores when you sign up on their sites will give you a 2 day notice of what is on sale next week. Use that time to plan and call.)
3. Clipping Companies
See what Jill Cataldo said on her site! I really changed my mind on clipping companies. Praise the Lord, I have not really been affected, having just started this summer. YAY!
Continue the old fashioned way of couponing; this is often enough to get the coupons you need little more work, but no jail, and a clear conscience.
